After 3 years of suffering I was recently diagnosed with Polymyalgia. However, I am already tapering off my dose of Prednisone from 10 mg to 0 at the rate of 1 mg per month. No alternate drugs have been suggested, although Plaquenil was prescribed a couple of months ago. I was unable to take it at the time. My understanding is that Plaquenil is a drug used widely in Malaria and has been found to help patients with heumatoid Arthitis. However, the effects are not apparent for approximately 4-6 months from taking the first dose. It would appear to be a long term therapy. I have stepped down my Prednisone from 20 mg to 10mg presently and should go to 9mg next week. I am disappointed that the symptoms are just returning more and more as I decrease the dose and am concerned that my quality of life will deteriorate more each month with little hint of help from any other direction. Has anyone else found this to be their experience?
