I was diagnosed, finally after many months of severe morning and inactivity pain. I too am taking prednisone (15mg) and am trying to cut down but the pain returns, particularly on the right side of my neck, between my right ear and the top of my shoulder. I checked on methotrexate and foud it's usually used for cancer patients. My rheumatologist said he'd never thought of using it for Polymyalgia Rheumatica. Don't know what the side effect are but it must by powerful stuff if it's for cancer patients. I've gained some weight, right around my waist. UGH as I've always been active and weight conscious. My doctor also prescribed the once weekly Fosamax tablet to prevent born loss. It's the 70mg tablet. You should talk with your doctor about this drug as it's very good to help prevent osteoporsis and it's now availabe in the once a week formula. I have noticed that I prespire excessively now and I asume it's the prednisone, though the Dr. does not confirm this. I'm talking VERY excessive perspiration that's often quite embarrassing. I'm a white male 61 and I guess not too many men get the illness, but I've certainly got it. Prednisone worked within 30 to 45 minutes of my wife picking up the prescription. I thought I was dying or something because I'd lost weight, lost all color in my face and was as white as a sheet. My friends also were worried about; now they tell me, after I'm feeling fine and back to normal activities like workout and golf regularly. Good luck, Patrick
