I've been there, boy have I been there! Here's what finally worked (and cheap too). Rub mineral oil on the child's hair and comb it through thoroughly with a nit comb. It's messy, so put a towel around the kid's neck. After it's combed through, let it sit 10 minutes. Then shampoo out a bunch of times in the shower or wherever...this is the hardest part, because it takes awhile to get all the oil out. (You don't have to get the oil out, it's just that I didn't want my daughter's hair to look oily) Repeat every other day for 10 days (this smothers any new lice that come along out of eggs that are still there). It's a pain, but it's the only thing that worked. The mineral oil cost about 2 dollars for a big bottle at the drugstore. I did not do any extra washing, vaccuming, or nit picking. Good luck!
