21/2 year old son's speech disorder

My son has not been diagnosed by a Doctor with dyspraxia/apraxia but his speech therapist has noted severe apraxia. Developmentally he met all physical milestones on time or early but his speech was slower then seemed to disappear around 19 months. He began speech therapy at age 2. His receptive language is on target and he is very smart. We have seen an ENT due to swollen tonsils and have been told he has allergies. His mouth is always open and he is a mouth breather. He drools quite a bit. He seems to have a weakness around the mouth area. I have been researching apraxia and dyspraxia and he seems to fit this to the letter. He does have some motor skills problems (A little clumsiness is noted). He had a neurological consult yesterday and after waiting for over two hours with no lunch to see the doctor he was tired and hungry and cranky. After seeing him for about ten minutes and his assistant about 20 minutes the doctor told me my son had autistic behaviors. They want to do an MRI and other tests and even mentioned drug therapy using prozac or zoloft! Needless to say we are appalled! We will not be returning to that Doctor. Has anyone else had problems even getting a diagnosis? The doctor barely listened to me when I asked about the possiblility of dypraxia. My son is very social and does not show signs of autism that any of my family or friends can see. I would love to e-mail with others who are experiencing speech disorders in their children. It's hard to know whrer to turn.
