I was also diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome. My first dr said that it was stress related and I just needed to reduce my stress. My 2nd dr gave me a prescription for Elavil 10mg. (which is a pediatric dose I belive). This is actually a medicine given for depression; however, it tames the nerve endings in that area and has GREATLY helped my condition. Hope this helps.
