Severe Migraines

What type of doctor are you seeing for your headaches? I would suggest seeking out a VERY good neurologist. One with an interest or great deal of knowledge in migraines and blood vessels. (Especially with your history!) Migraines are Caused by constricting of blood vessels in the brain. For some of us, with severe migraines, the effect of this can be harsh and complicated. A "Complicated Migraine" includes symptoms of stroke. I get these, my risk for stroke is high. I cannot use drugs like Imitrex and Maxalt because the force blood vessels to constrict. The fiorocet your doctor is giving you sometimes forces vessels to dialate. It's the Caffeine that does this. But sometimes it is not enough or quick enough. Treating the pain and relaxing the spasms is ussually better. Getting RID of the headache is very important!!! Every moment that goes by raises your stroke potential. Find a good neurologist. You need medications that will help you contorl the headaches. Ones that you take daily. I use Topramx and antisezure drug. I've tried hundreds and this is the only one that has made a differance. I also use fiorocet and vicodan to get rid of the headaches if/when I feel one coming on. Good Luck!
