I also have suffered from severe migraines, which controlled my life. My neurologist put me on a combination of Calan which is also used for high blood pressure but can be used for migraines, and Periactin, which controls the serotonin level. This helped me tremendously, and once the daily migraines were under control, I have been able to use the imitrex to control a bad migraine which only happen a few times a month now. All of these medications changed my life, however everyone's body reacts differently to different medications, but its worth it to ask your neurologist about these medications, if you're not happy with your neurologist, see if there is a pain center at your local hospital, where they may be concentrating on migraine pain. Bring these medications to their attention.
