I too had a herniated disk at C5-C6 protruding into my spinal cord and I know how much pain you've been in. It took six years and twelve doctors to correct. There is a wonderful surgery called Anterior cervical diskectomy/allograft fibular strut fusion. I had this surgery 2/19/98 and have had no problems since. I have all the records from my doctor if you would like me to fax them to you. I know what you are going through and it's difficult to make them understand. It can cause horrible pain and is very disabling. The disk is removed and replaced with a cadaver bone. Then C5 and C6 are fused with a small non-metal plate and two screws. I even have the x-ray that shows what it looks like. I'm sure it would fax also. Let me know if I can help. Don't wait six years, life's too short to suffer that long.
