I have had MVP for more than 30 years. Can't tell you how many trips to emergency rooms while in my 20's & 30's Had halter monitor many times. Now in 50's and must say that I have learned to just stay calm and ride out the palpitations. They are very, very, scary but,as someone else said, if they haven't killed me yet, I don't think they will. The "spells" as I call them come on with no warning. Feels like my heart is coming out my throat. Doctors do not know how this feels - unless they have MVP!! Easy for them to say not to worry. About pregnancy - if your doctor is aware of your problem - and it's up to YOU to make sure that he does - and that he LISTENS to you - he should be monitoring you during labor and delivery and telling you what he will do if you have an episode of MVP while delivering. Knowing ahead of time that he is aware and will keep an extra watch on you (make sure the nurses also know) will help you stay calmer and not get so frightened if you do have palpitations. Your doctor should take you seriously and reassure you to your satisfaction!!! Be direct and expect answers!!!! Many, many women with MVP have had many lovely children! My mom was one of them :) !! Good luck and let us know when your lovely baby arrives!!
