I would advise you to pin down your doc as to the cause of your Dad's dementia. MANY conditions have dementia as a side-affect. I'd ask your Doc about a alzheimer evaluation, tests for vitamin deficiency, etc. Is your Dad also incontinent? Is he having trouble walking? He may have a type of hydrocephalus taht adults cab get. In short, find out the cause and make sure you've addressed any and all organic causes. For additional support, contact your local alzheimer and related diseases chapter. They have much information on all types of dementia, and access to support groups. These support groups can offer very practical advice. You may be surprised how many people have had to deal with parents who have demntia and live a distance from their siblings. Alos check with your insurance company to see if your Dad has home health coverage for dementia. I hope this helps. My mother died from Alzheimer at age 66, and my 75 year old Dad has hydrocephalus. Both these conditions cause dementia. GOd Bless You and good luck.
