Hashimoto's Disease

Hi there Stacie, I too have Hashimoto's. I was diagnosed in September last year. I just turned 26 last month. We seem to be of the younger few with this autoimmune disease. It took me a few months to get rid of the tiredness associated with it after having started on hormone replacement. I am in Australia. I am taking Oroxine which is synthetic T4 which is probably what you are on also. I started off on a 25mcg dose but have now increased it steadily to 100mcg as my test results were not coming up as well as hoped. Just make sure you take your tablet every day for breakfast ( or whenever) and keep away from soy products. I am waiting to see what results will come up next month on the 100mcg dose. Make sure you go every 6 weeks to the docs to get tests for your T4 and TSH levels to monitor them and keep records of your progress. From what i have learnt about it, basicially if you do not take the "Synthroid" I think u call it over there, your thyroid will destroy itself due to the antibodies gobbling up the T4. So we have to take the tablets for the rest of our lives and monitor how we feel and what the test results show. Apart from that..piece of cake :) I do a lot of reading as I like to keep mysedl informed. It will take time for you to adjust. I still get tired easily and can't handle late nights. Oh well. Life is good though. Take care. Feel free to email me. minusculus@hotmail.com
