I am currently on SSI. The first thing to do is go to a good internal physician. They can help you get on, next call your social security office and request the papers to get you started. It takes awhile to get on but you will get a check for the laps time that it took to get it. The check is not great but it helps pay the bills. They do limit your assets that you are allowed and other household income effects it. It depends on the size of your family to how much income is allowed. If they do have to take out it is one dollar for every two that is made over the allowed amount. I hope this is helpful for you. You can e-mail me if you wish.
