The best thing would be to have a doctor's documentation as to what prevents you from working on a day-to-day basis--then go and apply. You can always reapply if they turn you down. I receive Soc. Sec. for a sleep disorder that many people have trouble taking seriously. I was turned down once, then reapplied and was successful. Lupus is pretty serious; I can't imagine that you can't make a case.
