Your doctor isn't being coy or needlessly secretive. He/She simply doesn't have enough information yet to tell you what to expect. "Abnormal cell growth" in a Pap smear can signify a range of conditions. Squamous cells can indicate the early stages of either a benign or malignant tumor, often quite small. Likewise, the Pap test produces a small number of false positives (essentially false alarms). By appropriate followup and pelvic examination, your doctor can verify whether there is a condition that requires further treatment -- or not. Meantime, try to put the terror away and settle down. If you are a praying person, then a prayer for clarity and calm is always constructive. I wish you wellness,
