I don't know why drs are wierd about telling things over the phone. The same thing happened to me and I was terrified as well. Mine turned out to be no big deal...well by that I mean the treatment was simple and effective. There are many stages of abnormal cell growth ranging from slightly atypical(which can be caused simply by having sex too close to the pap date)to cancer(which takes quite a while. This is why it is important to have regular paps. I would not worry until you see your doc. If it turns out to be no big deal yell at him/her for scaring you and tell him/her to work on the delivery so no one else goes thru what you have. If it is something more serious one step at a time, be sure to educate yourself because knowledge is comforting, and good luck to you.
