I,too, have polymyalgia and have used prednisone in the past. I was pain free, but a bone scan revealed I had osteopenia. I stopped the prednisone and began physical therapy. That felt GREAT,but is not a permanent solution. A year and a half after therapy with continued exercises on my part I can decrease the pain, but it never lets up. In Nov. I had melonoma surgery .My surgeon gave me ten days worth of Vioxx for pain. After using it for about a week I realized my shoulder pain had decreased considerably. After discussing this with my primary physician, he gave me an RX. for Vioxx.I've been using it for aprox.2 months. I still have a little shoulder pain-it's bearable-I often do self-massage. I certainly NEVER wake up in pain as I did in the past.
