I was very interested in your e-mail in search of a pen pal. I've been looking for someone to commune with for sometime now. I've found most doctors are either poorly informed, or seem uninterested in any symptoms of iron overload beyond the most obvious. I expect that is going to change now that researchers are beginning to realize Hemochromatosis is much more prevalent than initially thought. The problem is I don't I expect I'll be around when that happens. I do share an interest in many of the issues your raised. I worked for the State of Vermont's Vocational Rehabilitation Division for 28 years. Before that I taught school in what used to the State's Reform School for 3 years. I finally elected to retire on disability on December 1, 1998. I often regret now that I wasn't feeling well enough to advocate for myself. I'm by no means a work aholic, but my work was important to me and I had intended to work until I was at least 65. I'm currently 59 years old. I was diagnosed about 10 years ago. I also know quite a bit about the disease. I would love to have a pen pal with whom I can identify.
