I read your message. It was very interesting. I am a 46 year old female who was just diagnosed about 1 year ago, however, I do not feel I am getting enough blood out. Would be interested in knowing your initial iron, ferr and sat. levels. My neighbor down the street, age 46, just died of liver cancer. I knew she had hh but it took about 2 weeks to confirm. When I met her on a trip to my hemotologist and told her about hh she said she also had high iron in the past. I went that week and put an IOD fact sheet in her mailbox. That was only about 6 months ago so I knew when she called me to say she had liver cancer that hh must have been the cause. Her older sister has also been diagnosed with HH and needs plebotomies. I am going to see her doctor for a 2nd opinion but I'd love to hear from you. I am not sure of my levels right now since I've had 4-5 pints of blood drawn within the past 7-8 months. My initial iron level was 163 and is now (measured in July, 2000) 109, sat. is 36. Numbers may be actually lower now so I don't really know if I need weekly pblebs. IOD says ferritin should be below 10 but no hemotologist seems to agree. What do you think? Look forward to hearing from you.
