Developmental Dyspraxia

Dona

Message 3 of 52 Previous Next

My grandson, Stephen, is 2 1/2 years old and has been diagnosed with Dyspraxia. Fortunately he was diagnosed at a very early age. He is fortunate in that he is extremely coordinated. He can run like a deer, throw a ball (hard and accurate), ride a tricycle or bike with training wheels. He does, however, have a speech problem. He has been with a speech therapist since January 2000, and is making very slight progress. I'm afraid his speech is going to be a very long time coming. He understands and responds to everything, but just can't communicate. This frustrates him and he has a behavioral problem. His 4 year old sister, Alex, gets the brunt of his bad temper. We have seen some improvement as we learn to understand his way of communicating. He has the happiest look on his face when we finally understand something he is trying to tell us. I know each Dyspraxic child's problem differs, but it sure helps to have support out in the internet world. I do hope that all parents and grandparents keep in touch with each other. with him. fobia of emptying his bowels. He holds it for a week at a time, then screams while running holding his buttocks. He drinks several ounces of prune juice along with mineral oil everyday. Once he can't hold it any longer and has to go, he is fine. I know he realizes it doesn't hurt. tricycle, and do anything physical
