I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 15 years old. I was having about 5 fits today and my neurologist kept changing my medication. Nothing seemed to work. I then went to see a Professor at the Johannesburg General Hospital. She took my off my medication so that she could do a sleep test, to ascertain what the problem was. In the month that I was off medication I did not have any fits at all. That was in 1995. I now have Rivitrol, which I take if I feel as though I am going to fit. I also take Tegretol daily. Since 1995 I have only had about 4 fits. I don't know what country you are from. If you are South African, and live in Johannesburg, do yourself a favour and go and see Dr. Stanley Levy at Linksfield Clinic. He is my specialist, and is absolutely brilliant.I hope you come right, and I hope things get better. Don't give up. I almost did, and I am grateful now that I didn't. You can be epileptic and still have a good future. I am not just saying this. I am now 22 years old and am in the process of completing my law degree. If you want to chat, e-mail me. Joanne
