Myra, most people afflicted with bursitis have great improvement and often even cure from cortisone injections. The injection itself is not nearly as painful as the bursitis. You shouldn't have more than 3 injections in the same place. Your doc should have you on a good anti-inflammatory too. Good luck, I hope you recover soon.
