bunions are a boney projectio of the head of the first metatarsal bone they may be an arthritic enlargement due to an abnormal angulation of the bone causing trauma or it may be a bursal formation over the bone. This can be deterimined with Xray studies. If the pain is severe this condition can be corrected by surgical means that may disable you for several days, also shields could be made to give you some relief. An orthotic to change your gait pattern may also be helpful
