I read your message regarding Piraformis Syndrome. I have suffered from the condition since May of 2000. It was triggered by hitting my elbow extremely hard against a car door followed by going to the gym and doing rigourous workouts. I was in chronic pain for about 6 months. I would say that over the past 8 months the pain has eased up a little although I do have good days and not so good days. The promising news is that I am now doing many of the activities that I could not do last summer when this first happened. One of the things that I discovered was that this condition is highly agravated by stress. Last year I tried everything from physical therapy, trigger point injections, accupunture, and several massages. I have recently been seeing a chiropractor who specializes in applied kinesiology which I think has been extremely beneficial. If I could make 2 recommendations it would be a good massage therapist who can get into the area of the muscle (not too much at once) and break some of the spasm up. I would also recommend this applied kinesiology which focuses on muscles and Piraformis Syndrome is very much muscle related. I will tell you that I had to stop working out the way I used to. I will also tell you that I am now back on my bike and did over 20 miles yesterday and I am able to rollerblade again without the intense pain that I had last summer. I hope this helps you somewhat. I you need any other information, please let me know.
