infant acid reflex

First of all let me start saying "I know just how tired, frustrated & worried you both are". (Im truly sorry)My Daughter, now 6 yrs old, has acid reflux as well & was on zantac and propulsid (the propulsid is a bad med for babies. It has since been recalled. It caused heart problems and even death. Back then it was a new mirical drug, my daughter was on both for a year. She pretty much grew out of it. however, still has some problems with gaging and tummy aches. We give her tums or mylanta. Its was extreemly hard to deal with. We went through every formula and breast feeding. the best thing I ever did was make her formula thick enough for her to get down, & heavy enough for it to stay as far down as possible,(you can also use breast milk for this) this was suggested by a childrens hospital in RI. It worked better than anything else I tried. we used rice cereal because it was the most mild of the baby cereals. She had to eat & sleep in her carrier sitting up. we also put her carrier in her cradle and she slept in my room for a very long time. Nobody could pick her up after being fed for an hour (and believe me it took an hour just to feed her 2 oz.) unless necessary. and feeding time was in her carrier as well. It was tough but this too will pass and they will monitor his weight gain at the doctors...has he had an upper GI series? My daughter did, she was only weeks old and it showed a significent reflux even with the barium and thats heavy stuff. One small peice of advise, when he is sleeping, make sure your wife & you get a nap in, the laundry and dirty dishes can wait. stock up on the new disposable bibs. The muscle in his tummy will get stronger as he gets older, if not there is surgery to help, I know that sounds scary but they will not do it unless necessery ie; weight loss, dehydration etc...my daughter had "slow weight gain" didnt warrant surgery. Good luck & god bless,
