leiomyosarcoma

January 2002: W/F, 39 years of age. I had a hysterectomy (still have ovaries). Prior biopsies sent to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology had not been able to be diagnosed conclusively pre-surgery. Leiomyosarcoma was diagnosed during surgery and confirmed by AFIP afterward - though they did not offer a "stage" diagnosis. (Oddly enough - I've been told LMS in the uterus is even more rare.) Also, my local doctor has never known anyone as young as myself to have LMS. Dr. Neil Rosenshein, from Mercy Hospital-Baltimore, MD - assisted my doctor. They feel my cancer was completely contained in my uterus. The external appearance of my uterus was normal. My follow-up consists of a pelvic exam every 6 months and a yearly chest xray. (I previously had a ct-scan.) I would treasure hearing from anyone who is among this seemingly small group. I am particularly interested in recurrence info. Perhaps follow-up others have had and why their doctors chose the follow-up they did. Like Gwen, who had a lung scan and bone scan. Please, lets keep this thread updated. Best Wishes to All. Loy Lee
