For the past 6 yrs. my husband and I have dealt with infertility problems. I have had 2 exploratory surgeries and he has been tested, it was always treated as a "fertility problem" until I recently read an article in a magazine on PCOS and it was a wake up call. I have since began treatment with an Endocrinologist. I am taking Metformin to enable my body to utilize the insulin it produces, I am still trying to get all info. I can, I just want anyone who may be suffering PCO symptoms to realize that it is not just a fertility problem...the health problems reach much farther than that giving PCO patients a higher risk of developing adult onset diabetes, heart disease, stroke etc... Knowing this has also helped to get our insurance to pay for tests and treatment. If you have irregular periods, check into POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN SYNDROM OR STEIN-LEVENTHAL SYNDROM on the web. Get all the information you can and see if it fits. My doctor had operated on me, and treated me with various expensive fertility drugs - it was only when I brought PCO to his attention did he say "OH, yeah, that could be" I immediately took the responsibility of my treatment away from my GYN and went to an Endocrinologist.
