Like Andrew, I too have syringomelia, which is a condition from something called Chiari Malformation, where the cerebellum protrudes over the spinal cord. I was first diagnosed with MS three years ago and am fortunate to have only mild symptoms -- which seems to drive the doctors NUTS!! Now, they say I have Chiari Malformation with syringomelia as well -- if you check the symptoms they're very similar. THis too should be picked up on an MRI; however, it wasn't until my second MRI two years after my original diagnosis that mine was spotted.
