Hi, between 15-20 years ago one of my neighbors was a very pretty, very active single mother. She hurt her knee doing something or other, and eventually went in for surgery. She said that, as a result of her surgery, she developed Rheumatoid Arthritis. She eventually ended up in a wheelchair. I moved out of the neighborhood, so I don't know what happened after that. My advice is to go to every kind of doctor you can think of, regular, or alternative medicine, until you get diagnosed. By the way, HERNIAS can develop anywhere! In the 1980's, after a year of small pains in my lower abdomen, a doctor accidentally discovered I had THREE ABDOMINAL HERNIAS, top/middle/bottom. They were corrected, and now I've three more. (I am a female, and it was a midline defect which went undiscovered at birth.)
