You should take your husband to a university medical center. Call the hospital or medical center in your state and ask if there is a specialist there that specializes in the treatment of headaches. Call the public relations office or the "find a doctor line" just tellt he operator what you are looking for. Be persistant to find the right person at the hospital to help you. If you have a problem call the social work department and ask to speak to a social worker that handles outpatient problems. Explain your situation and ask for her or his help finding the right doctor that specializes in headaches. Also you should look up migraine headaches on the Web. This will give you the latest treatment info. There is a new medication called Imitrex that has helped some but not all people. Has your husband tried this. Your primary doctor could write an Rx for this while you are waiting for a second opinion at the university medical center. There are special clinics that just specialize in headaches. I don't recall where these clinics are but I am sure if you do research on the web you will find there names. If there is no university medical center in your state consider a nearby state. I am fortunate to live in Boston where there are many excellent hospitals, but if you live in the mid-west, the Cleveland Clinic and Rush Presbyterian are famous in that area. In Texas there is Baylor which I believe is in Houston. You may have to travel but don't give up, the right doctor could help you immensely. While you are waiting for an appointment with the specialist try to get your husband some counseling. Call the social work department at the hospital near you and explain your husband's situation, you could go with him. Social workers are excellent sources of information and also could offer some support. If he won't go, go yourself to discuss your situation with a counselor and get some support. I know it is difficult to deal with a sick spouse as my husband suffers from depression and some days are very hard. You don't mention if you have insurance, if your husband is disabled get his medical records and go to the Social Security office and apply for SSI. This is usually given for people that are disabled and unable to work. It can take several months but is worth doing as after 1 year being on this he will receive Medicare and will have insurance. In the meantime while you are calling around for a headache specialist appointment, call the hospital's Free Care office and ask about Free Care. The social work department can also help you with this. All hospitals must offer this. You will have to provide documentation of your expenses, etc. for this so have your tax and banking statements with you. Good luck and don't give up. There is a solution for all aliments out there but unforutnately you have to do a lot of work before you find it but it is worth it!
