herniated cervical disk

Linda

Message 8 of 12 Previous Next

I ruptured a disc in my neck almost 4 years ago. I was told that if the pain went away after three months, then no surgery would be necessary. But my idea of returning to normal activities would have to be altered. I still have a bulging disc that could rupture in the future, so I must be very careful what I do. I am pain free but I have to be careful what I lift or pull or push. I can't snow ski, water ski or do any activity that will put stress on my neck. My neurologist said that if I do something and pain or tingling return, that is my sign that I must not do that again. So I live normally but I have to think about anything that I do and gauge whether it could harm me. If you aren't in any more pain, then you have probably healed as much as you are going to. I don't know if the tingling will ever subside, but it took about a year before I felt pretty normal again. I did lose strength on my right side and will probably not regain it totally. I just watch what I do and if I do too much, I take it real easy for a few days. I am just so glad that I am not in pain and did not have to have surgery. If you want to be reassured then by all means, go to the doctor and if things get worse, I would recommend that.
