I am, well let's just say over 50, I just came down with gout this last year, it is about the most painful thing that I can ever recall having. According to my doctor, there really is no diet you stick to, I find that I can eat just about anything I want except shell fish (which I love) I just have made up my mind to stay away from them. There are some good medicine's out for gout, I finally started taking Allopurinol 300 mg, once daily and it seems to be helping to keep the gout away, I still stay away from shell fish. Tell your son to kind of narrow down what he eats to the attack of gout, that may help. Hope this helps some, it is a painful thing to have to go through. I have also been told, if your dad has gout, your children will have gout, my dad has gout.
