Gout in children?

Betty

Message 26 of 26 Previous

Hello,,JYY I do not always check this site.. but saw your post directed at me (2-19) I tried to find the ICuredMyGout.com site..but either didn't find it or couldn't get my old slow computer to open it.. Only thing I can say... is..THERE IS NOT CURE FOR GOUT... but remember there are 2 kinds of gout. Gout..a metabolic disorder thought to be hereditary..(no it don't always mean your children will get it.. it can skip a generation. My P. grandfather had it. and one uncle. I am a woman almost 52.. and I am the only of 13 grandchildren to have inherited it. =so far. THE SECOND is Psuedo Gout.. sometimes called "fake gout" same symptoms..swelling pain..but production of uric acid is not the reason. YES>> diet control is good..and there are certain foods which have significantly high Purine levels.. (a purine being the main chemical compound necessary to produce gout) all meats vegetables have some purines.. meat more.. wild meats..organ meats.. the most.. and as I stated before.. TURKEY is a TERRIBLe offender. yeast.. and SHELL FISH also right bad.. However these foods do not cause gout.. BUT because of their high purine levels.. they CAN help trigger an attack and possibly make it worse.. The American College of Rheumatology has done extensive blind test... in controlled atmospheres..like V.A. hospitals... and after months of extremely strict diets.. on mostly men..(thats who you mostly find in V.A. hospitals..) with gout.. and uric acid levels..of 25 to 40... after months of this strict diet..NOT ONE was able to lower the uric acid level significantly.. only a few points..NONE no where near enough to avoid an attack.. When my level reaches 11 - 12 I start an attack. Losing weight. (if over weight) and diet are always good for you... Vitamen B... cherry juice.. all that stuff is good for you.. but while in theory they have some slight benefit... and maybe they will help with psuedo gout.. They WILL NOT cure REAL GOUT. Some of the "miracle cures" of juice..etc... are so so dangerous if you go off meds to do them... OF course decent diet could help to control many different problems.. exercise certainly... BUT IF you have real gout..and someone tells you to try a cure and NOT To take your meds..like alluperinol...etc... It's no different than telling a diabetic to stop insulin and drink pineapple juice for a cure... JUST as dangerous. For those who have children with gout.. that is really unusual.. of course now days.. children are seeming to get more and more diseases thought to problems coming on in adulthood... so..it's possible.. but so so unlikely.. I'd say who diagnoised it and how? only 2 ways recommended by American Rheumatology College. 1. draw fluid off the inflamed joint and send to lab and SEE the presence of URIC ACID CRYSTALS.. 2. X-rays. but not with first several attacks.. IF you've had repeated attacks.. the deposits left on the joints will show.. Will look a lot like calcuim spurs.. BUT.. calcuim spurs look dull on x-rays... Uric acid deposits... have a whiter look.. almost irredescent.. or glowie.. also these crystals can sort of bite into the bone.. the joints around my big toes were showing evidence of this after only 4 or 5 attacks.. almost like little hole like places in bone.. ALSO just because you think you are fine and You don't "feel" gout.. your uric acid levels can still be high enough to do gradual damage.. not high enough for an attack.. but damaging your organs... arteries.. those sharp little crystals sort of "snag and shred" at the viens and artery walls.. your heart..your kidneys your liver...etc.. GOUT is not only in the big toes... thats just where you feel it first... Gout is everywhere the blood flows... and GOUT is a form of arthritis... in the arthritis family... and should be treated by a Rheumatologist... Rheumatology.org is a good site to check out.. cause it is American College of Rheumatology's site.. you can find information there.. treatments..etc.. any new research..etc.. part of the site is limited to physicians.. but there is a lot for you to find too... betty
