Hi8! I have had nerve blocks done several times in my lower back after a major car accident where 2 of my vertebreas were shattered and now have metal plates in my back keeping everything together. I have the nerve blocks done about once a year on an out-patient basis in my pain-management specialists office. I get put under general anesthea and the process takes only about 1/2 an hour. When I wake up, I am in alot of pain but givin IV pain medication. I have to have my husband drive me. You will need a driver if going under general anesthia. I am usually in some discomfort for about 2-3 days later but the doctor gives me Percocet for those days. This procedure usually keeps me pain free for about a year, sometimes longer. I usually have it done in the winter when my muscles tend to be more tense due to the cold. My orthepedist recommended this doctor to me and I have been under his care for the past 4 years. I hope I have answered your questions. I know your procedure is for your ankle but I imagine the procedure should be similar. Good Luck!!! Sharon LeBrun
