The cyst is IN your ovary...Doctor do a really lousy job of explaining that!!! Please don't let them or anyone else tell you that it doesn't hurt either!!!!! Your ovary is only 2-3 cm's big so OF COURSE, anything that gets bigger than that is going to hurt a LOT!!!!!! Do you know how big it is? About it going away?...That really depends! Did they give you anything to try and make it go away? 10 days of steroids? Some Birth control pills? Anything other than pain meds? If the cysts was bigger than your ovary I really would not count on it going away on it's own!!! BUT many doctors won't pay too much attention to it until it get to be about 8 cms...by this time it will REALLY, REALLY hurt!!!! If it stays the same size or grows a little bigger over the next 2-3 months your doctor may remove it sooner. Surgery is what I am leading up to here and what may be needed to relieve the problem if it does not go away on it's own. I don't think that anyone here could tell you when of if it will go away on it's own. Every cyst you ever get is going to have a mind of it's own and react differently. What you DON'T want it to do is RUPTURE...especially once it gets big...past 4-5 cm's. This REALLY hurts. The pain from this would most likely send you to the ER. You WILL feel it! The object is to have it removed before this happens. If they gave you something to try and make it go away, hopefully it will work! BUT if it is a problematic cyst It most likely needs to be surgically removed. PS..if your doctor tells you he has to remove your whole ovary with it you may want to get a second opinion! A GOOD surgeon should NOT have to take the whole ovary to remove a cyst!!! They DO have to get the entire sac to make sure that it does not grow back but again, a GOOD surgeon can do this without taking the ovary! Do NOT get the second opinon from the doctor your doctors recommends. That doctor is going to agree with yours because thy are friends. Find your own 2nd Opinion doctor!!! Good LUCK!!!
