I also have dystonia, for 17 years. I have had a bit of experience with treatments for dystonia. My type is spasmodic torticollis...and your husband's type? If Botox is ineffective, he can try Myobloc (or type B botulinum toxin) which is injected in the same way. Half of dystonia patients are taking the drug Klonopan, or clonozopan, a muscle relaxant. There are also other drugs. I have had selective denervation surgery which greatly improved my neck spasms.
