Susan
WITHOUT A DOUBT! I've never talked to any of those I know that have FMS where the barometric changes, UP OR DOWN, don't affect the muscles with FMS. When the dx came that I had FMS,CFIDS,and myofascial pain syndrome, I only lasted about one more yr at the Dr.s office I worked. I was so sad, had been with him for six yrs, friends with his family(our children were the same age as Rich and I were.)It was a wonderful place to work, but the time came when I knew I couldn't go on. The office staff and the Dr. used to get a kick out of me being able to predict what days would be the day patients came in for pain shots, or pain that had gotten worse. That was in the Fall, Winter, Spring, I hit it on the head of the nail everytime. Even when a day wasn't supposed to be doing anything, if I hurt, a storm would end up coming in or the barometer would drop or go up. I can even understand with the barometric pressure dropping, the surprise for me was when it "moved back up," the pain started all over. I quit the Dr.s office in Aug of 1996 at 49. Rich and I always teased that we were going to retire at the same time. His wife was 12 yrs older than he, and my husband is 12 yrs older than me, and interestingly, each of our three children were in the same grades. I'd be happy to start sending you information that I have on fibromyalgia. Do you have any other questions or concerns? Do you have a good practioner, whether it be a Dr. or Nurse Practitioner, Dr.s asst.? When I left, we had about 4 patients that Rich had diagnosed with FMS. I was in total denial, I didn't want to have to go through the pain I knew they were experiencing. Towards the end, several of my patients could tell how quickly I was going downhill. They said it was FMS, and by golly if they weren't right. We don't have any rheumatologists here in Sonora, but Rich gave me some time off during the week so I could be seen by Dr.Kanwal Khanna in Modesto, Calif. He's a wonderful man, very sympathetic, and explains to spouses what you're going through. His staff (all of them were very kind). I haven't been down there in five yrs. There really is nothing he can do that Rich doesn't do here. I'm fortunate that my doc has me on pain meds, muscle relaxants, anti-anxiety meds, Prozac (so the endorphins will be released and gives you energy). It's been six yrs, three days ago that I had to leave, I still miss the "gang", although, only the nurse is still there. My job as Front Office Manager/Receptionist is an incredibly busy one, and there have been four women there since I left, it wasn't an easy job, but I loved it. The time went fast also. Drop me a line. GET A GOOD PHYSICIAN where you live that knows about FMS. How old are you? How long have you had it? Can you write me a little bio about yourself, I'd be glad to send you mine. Good Luck
