Hi there. I had (at age 50 due to an auto accident) a herniated disk and a ruptured disk at C5-6 and C6-7. I had neurosurgery and had the two disks removed and cadaver bone put in the place of the disks. I was, like you, unable to relieve the pain (somewhat) unless I held my arm above my head. I had immediate relief after surgery. Also had one more surgery to do some repair to nerves (this time through the back of my neck) and that surgery did wonders, too. I waited, from date of auto accident to first surgery date) 1 year 8 months before I would do the first surgery because I was determined it would get better on its own. It did not. I am VERY glad I finally did surgery. Saved my marriage and my sanity! Good luck to you! I'll say a prayer.
