OVERIAN CYSTS.... please help !

Ovarian Cysts are a funny thing...we ALL get them every month as part of our normal cycle. BUT...how many is TOO many and how big is TOO big? Well...Your ovaries are only 2-3 CM big so if there is a cyst that size or bigger in an ovary it's going to hurt. How big do they get before the doctor starts to worry? HOnestly...about 6-8 cm's. That by no means is to say that a 4 cm cyst that ruptures will not hurt...it will! BUT it may also go away on it own OR it can be medicated away. I'm surprised no one has started you on any treatment!!!! If cysts are NOT something you are prone to and you show no physical characteristics of having PCOS than a 10 day course of steroids, such as a Medrrol dose pack is ussually given to see if it helps reduce the cysts. IF, however, you DO show signs of developing PCOS, there is more work to be done. Some of the physical signs are weight gain, oily skin, acne, etc...These changes may have come on suddenly or over a few months. Your hormone levels can/should be checked then they need to be balanced. You may have too much testosterone. Or an imbalance or another hormone. BC Pills ussually work very well in helping reduce not only the physical problems but the reduce the cysts as well. There is also the possibity that this is just a fluke...Perhaps that's not the right word but I mean that this is a one time occurance and all will be well again soon. I have endometriosis, have since I was 11 and I'm almost 34. That's almost 23 yrs...When I was 19 I skipped a period while on the pill (for both endo control and BC) and freaked out!!!!! 2 out of 3 home preg tests came back positive. The doctors pee test came back positive. The blood test came back negative. an Ultrasound revealed a 4 cm cyst pushing into my uterus. that "pushing" was enough to make my uterus think something was in there and sent out the hormones to turn a preg test positive even though I was NOT pregnant. If you are in pain...speak up!!!! Ask for medication!!!!!! You don't have to live in pain!!!!!! If the follow up still shows you have cysts and your doctor is offering NOTHING for treatment find a new doctor!!!!! There IS treatment and you don't have to live like this! Good Luck! Kimb
