i had what your husband has. i got injured and i had it herinated on L4 AND L5 and fused, i went thru what he went thru and they all did not work for me too, i had the surgery but before that they do a procedure what is called a mylagram. it is a die injected to the site so when it comes to the time to operate he would know exactly where it is, unfortunatly i had a severe severe reaction they almost killed me cuz the dye posined my body, i had a big time migraine that would not go away but it went beyond that , i vomited everything but my lungs for 2 days striaght i had nothing left but to heeve, i was miserable and the dr keep insisting drink fluids..that is crazy nothing stayed, u feel like dying, then i was rushed to the dr cuz i lost 10 lbs in 3 days, i was slowly dying inside and everything was shutting down, they tried everything cuz im allergic to many meds so they have decided to do another procedure called a mylapatch, that is when they take your own blood and inject it in your back to relieve the bombing feeling in ur head , it was a nitemare , i was on a suicide watch and stuff and when u feel that go what u feel rite away, then i had my surgery in sept, that evening i was in soooooo much pain , they found that i had a synovial cyst on my site that if it would burst i will become paralyzed . well that nite both legs i were, my insurance wanted me out the next day, so i fought it, i was still hooked up to morphine drip etc..i could not move out of bed , the next day my rt leg came back but not my left leg and foot..it has to do with l4 and l5, i went thru therepy and it was long...i til this day have back problems and lost my feelings to my left leg and foot, i collect ssd now and it was a fight but i won it, the reasons they believe i have that loss is that they believe a piece of bone is loged in my back or built up of scar tissues in which u could see it, it hurts and i went thru everything , everytime when it rains, me with menstrual cylce, or any lifting u will feel it especially the next day..i have meds for all that but i hate taking them..if you want to chat sometimes let me know, not everyone goes thru this of what i had but i do know one thing..i wish it was done by a neurosurgeon and not and ortho cuz ortho doesnt deal with the nevrves, that is something to think about..take care email if u like
