Evista is the brand name for raloxifene, which, according to the pharmacy sheet eclosed with my prescription, is "a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in women after menopause...side effects that may occur...include hot flashes or leg cramps". I also read somewhere that it can cause blood clots in the legs and that you should go off the medicine a few days before a long flight where you would be inactive for a long time. Check out raloxifene on the internet and you will get a better explanation than I'm giving! I don't think you're supposed to take it at the same time as Hormone Replacement Therapy, but ask your doctor. I do know that Evista does not stimulate breast or uterine tissue. It also is not as effective as HRT as far as keeping bones strong, but I stayed away from HRT because of a history of breast cancer in my family, and because I didn't like the sound of some of the side effects I'd heard about with HRT. Also, I had only minor hot flashes during menopause that didn't interrupt sleep or leave me drenced in sweat during the day. Hope this helps. Amanda
