It sounds like more than IBS!!! Painful Periods are NOT normal!! If you are seeing a doctor that has been telling you they are then you need a new doctor! You could have endometriosis, which aslo has IBS symptoms! You need to see a pelvic pain or endo specialist, not a GYN. an ultrasound won't detect this you must have a laperoscopy with a skilled surgeon who would be capable of removing your edno should you have this condition. This would dramatically help your IBS symtpoms as well. NOW if you do have IBS with it, IBS leads to other problems with endo and the endo could be effecting your colan. this HAS to be treated as well. It will NOT go away on it's own. Also IBS can lead to other problems like spastic colan. Have you seen a Gastroengerologist??? There are really good meds out there that settle the spasm and cramping pain.
