I have exactly the same problem and I am on metformin which lowers/regulates the insulin levels. In my case it is all part of a condition called Polycystic ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). If your daughter has wonky periods, slightly hairy body etc you may want to check it out. But anyway metformin works but if you are overweight you tend to start dreaming of teh effect it will have on you and then you do get disappointed. The weight will not just drop off and you still need to work very hard at it - it will be very easy to get disillusioned but don't give up. Everyone does have different results on the drugs and it does work better for others than some. I have had this problems for the last 12 years and it is only now that its been diagnosed so I know how depressing the whole extra weight thing can be.
