I just had my second knee replacement and am delighted with both of them--I walk pain free. Wish I'd done the first one 5 years earlier. I didn't wait more than a year deciding to get the second one done! Rehab varies. With my 1st knee it took about 6 weeks of hard therapy. With this one I'm at 8 weeks but I blame this slower recovery on very inadequate pain management in the hospital. The therapy is critical. You must be dedicated to working VERY hard as regaining your range of movement. It will hurt, but why go through the surgery if you don't get the bes!t possible outcome? Find a Board Certified Orthopoedist who does only knee and hip replacements. This is crucial. Then try to insist on PCA, Patient Controlled Analgesia, for the pain drug you'll be on for the first 24-48 hours. Stay in the hospital at least 3 full days. All this gives you a jump start on healing. Pain delays healing. Take all the pain meds you can get while in the hospital because pain control has a lot to do with your recuperation. (You won't become a junkie!) Good luck! Ann
