Hi! My friends on healthlink and I have trouble with iritis (also known as uveitis) because we have Behcets disease. So I know quite a bit of information. Iritis is inflamation of the iris. It is very serious because it can lead to scarring, which can permanently effect vision. It is treated with steriod drops (usually predforte.) If it is a very bad flare up it can also be treated by keeping your eyes dialated. Iritis is very uncommon, so you should check into any underlying condition. Flare ups are usually brought on by some sort of minor eye injury. For me, I usually have flare ups when I have been in direct sun light for to long. My Opthamologist told me to by a nice pair of sunglasses (glass lenses are best for protection against dangerous rays.) This has helped me alot. Good luck. If you ever have more questions you can go to the behcets disease chat board. Even though your daughter doesn't have Behcets, You will find a large group of sympathetic people who deal with iritis on a daily basis. Feel free to contact me also if you need more assistance.
