The surgery for torn meniscus is relatively simple with differing recovery times depending on the individual (mine only took a day or two before I was up and around). They take out the meniscus (which functions as a "washer" for your knee joint), so you may have some sensitivity with weather changes, etc. but for the most part, it is so much better than the pain you are feeling now, you will be glad you did it.
