A recent MRI revealed a torn medial meniscus and damage to the patellar tendon and fluid in the joint space, can i know what this means and if i will require surgery and what the alternative treatment methods are? In specific this is exactly what the report of the MRI of my right knee says: There is a small joint effusion mainly located in the suprapatellar bursa. There is a complex branching high signal intensity in the posterior horn and body of the medial meniscus compatible with a complex tear. There is suspicious of a free fragment medially raising the possibility of a buckle handle tear. There is associated minimal irregularity of the adjacent tibial articular cartilage. The lateral meniscus is normally outlined. The cruciate and collaterlal ligaments are intact. Minimal fluid is seen adjacent to the patellar tendon near the tibial insertion point most likely secondary to sprain. No evidence of chondromalacia patellae is seen. Thank You
