My mother has recently been diagnosed with Secondary Pulmonary Hypertension. Onset of her condition was relatively sudden. However, the symptoms that led to the diagnosis were classic. She fell and broke her leg about six months ago and has had problems moving. In fact she hasn't been up for more then an hour during any day since the accident. Her age, inability to move or exercise caused insufficient deep vein return and eventually resulted in a thrombus. She was put on blood thinning drugs which appeared to be helpful, but not a cure. Two weeks ago she experienced severe pain in her chest and was once again taken to the hospital. The secondary P.H has effected her heart muscle as well as the other muscle tissue. Her heart is Ischemic as a result of oxygen deprivation. As I understand it the disease will continue to progress, there is no known course of reversal, she will eventually need to be placed on life supports. If you or your loved one are over sixty I would stop looking for a cure and begin thinking about what conditions may make life more comfortable. I wish you the best. Beth
