My sister had a Harrington rod placed in/on her spine when she was 20. (also had bone from her hip used to fuse part of her mid-spinal region). This was done to correct scoliosis curve that was severe. She had 2 children with normal delivery. She is 43 now and about to have the rod removed due to severe pain in her back. To this time though the surgery never bothered her. Good luck.
