My husband had AAA surgery in 1998,and he suvived and did quite well.He also had ateries that caused a by-pass 1 year later.Also had only about 35% lung function at the time and was 75 years old.And is also a diabetic. So I think you should have the surgery as soon as possible before it is too late. By the way he is now 77 years old and is still with me. Good luck.
