Helen. I have been treated for this condition for a year now with botox injections. I agree that GP's were hopeless. I even had to contact someone in the US to find a suitable neurologist in Australia. However I now have excellent care from a special botox clinic held at St Vincents public hospital in Sydney although I will soon transfer to a neurologist at the John Hunter hospital in Newcastle which is nearer to home. What's more my botox injections are free of charge at the clinic. My treatments have lasted progressively longer but we have had to experiment to get it right - I once lost my swallowing reflex and also my voice became affected which was distressing at the time. My doctor is fantastic and I feel confident now that the condition can be managed. Hope things have improved for you since your message. If you are still paying for the injections it is time for a change of doctor.
